Qatar Tennis Federation to host World Schools tournament

DOHA: The Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) have won the rights to host the International Schools Federation (ISF) World Schools Championships in 2015, it was announced here yesterday.

The Championships to be held under the general rules of ISF and the International Tennis Federation, will be open for the 14 to 17 year-olds and is to be played in a round-robin team format.

“As Qatar is enjoying a period of great growth and prosperity, Doha serves as an important cultural hub for the region – one that combines both traditional and modern values,” said QTF President Nasser Ghanem Al Kholaifi (pictured).

“As a sporting hub that is constantly bringing in the greatest sporting talent in the world, we are honored to be able to host the World Schools Championships in 2015 – where the youth of today can participate in a team competition and be exposed to all that the city has to offer as well,” he added.

This year’s event is being staged in Australia, from April 13 to 20. QTF will host the event in 2015 along with the Qatar School Sports Federation.

“On behalf of the ISF President, I have the honour to confirm that the Executive Committee approved the application of Qatar for conducting the ISF World Schools Championships 2015,” said ISF General Secretary Jan Coolen.

Australia, Belgium, Chile, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Singapore, Turkey, Ukraine and Qatar are some of the countries which will take part in this year’s edition in Australia.tThe Peninsula
