Doha: The Qatar Chess Training Center (QCTC) Championship was concluded with the participation of 55 male and female players in rapid chess held on Swiss system.
India’s Jantayet claimed title in Group A with his compatriot Tax Sharma achieving second place. Qatar’s Ryan Irfan secured third position in the contest.
Group B saw French player Alain emerging winner followed by Turkish player Lamis Aid and India’s Nita Robert.
Hamad Al Thani and Haya Al Hussein won the best Qatari player of the tournament awards.
Qatar Chess Federation (QCF) Secretary-General Yousef Mohammed Al Mutawa distributed prizes among the participants.
“We are happy with the levels that were presented during the tournament,” said Al Mutawa.
“The event was held as per objectives set by the QCF to expand the base of the game in order to prepare large number of players. The technical level of the tournament was very impressive, and the results varied among the competitors, and this is what made us happy,” he said.
He added: “The federation will organise many tournaments in the coming months and we expect a large number of participation in these events.”
