Doha: An intensive campaign was launched against parking of trucks, cars, boats and cabins in prohibited and undesignated places. This is especially applied to the aforementioned vehicles parked within residential neighbourhoods and public squares. The campaign was launched in areas of Al Shamal Municipality, represented by the General Control Department.
The campaign includes putting up removal stickers on trucks and cars as well as raising awareness to introduce the Law No. 18 of 2017 on public hygiene. Necessary legal measures will also be taken against violators.
In a statement, the Mininistry of Municipality said that according to Article 4 of the law, "it is prohibited to occupy squares, roads, streets, corridors, alleys, sidewalks and public parking lots with abandoned vehicles, equipment, machines, or temporary or fixed buildings, without a license from the municipality."
The Municipality may also seize the vehicles subject to the violation. In the event that the vehicles are not recovered and amounts due are not settled by the owners within six months from the date of seizure, the municipality has the right to dispose off the vehicles through a public auction. This is done to meet the administrative expenses and the amounts owed by the owner, provided that what is left from the sums of the sale price will be refunded.
