DOHA: QNB Stars League (QSL) side Al Ahli will have their pre-season camp in Austria in July, it was announced yesterday.

Al Ahli Media Officer Essa Al Malki said the camp duration would be two weeks.

The management, headed by Al Ahli Sports Club President Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Thani, is also expected to make decisions on a number of matters, such as recruitment of coach and foreign professional players, well before the new season starts as they are eager to fare far better next time than their ninth-place finish in the QNB Stars League.

The Brigadiers could not do well in other tournaments either.

Al Ahli are set to play a number of friendlies during their build-up to the new season.

Meanwhile, Al Duhail captain Youssef Msakni is recuperating well following a cruciate ligament surgery he had in Pennsylvania, the US.

Msakni sustained the injury during their QNB Stars League Week 22 match against Al Sailiya. He is expected be back in action after six or seven months.

The Tunisian had missed their matches in the Qatar Cup, which they won by defeating Al Sadd 2-1 in the final.

Msakni was a key contributor to Al Duhail’s fine run in the season including triumph in this season’s QNB Stars League, which they achieved with an unbeaten record.

The attacking midfielder emerged as the second-best scorer in the tournament with 25 goals, one less than team-mate Youssef El Arabi, and provided many assists.

He has been named in the final selection of players for the Qatar Football Association’s Best Player-of-the-Year award along with team-mate Nam Tae-Hee and Al Sadd’s Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez.
