Qatar Golf Lovers (QGL), Qatar’s oldest and largest Golf Society, which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year, hosted its milestone 200th Tournament amidst strict COVID-19 restrictions, where the Indian Diplomats took away the major honours.
As many as 32 golfers participated in a Four-Person-Team Texas Scramble Tournament that was unique because 50% of each Team comprised of fresh graduates from the QGL Golf Academy who were inducted into competitive golf under the guidance of experienced team mates.
The Team comprising Indian Ambassador Dr. Deepak Mittal, Team Captain Mohan Atla (Defense Attaché at Indian Embassy), Chandrashekar Angadi and Partho Saha fought tooth and nail against 8 Teams to rake up an incredibly low Team Score of 28.7, but they eventually lost by the narrowest of margins to the Winning Team comprising of QGL Captain Clark White, Navid Bukhari, Xavier Dhanaraj (First Secretary Consular & Community Affairs at Indian Embassy), and PK Viswanath, who eventually finished with the lowest net score of 28.6.
Special prizes went to Vilas Sangam for ‘nearest to rope’, Sanjay Jain for ‘nearest to pin’, Clark White for ‘longest putt’, and Cherehzade Boocha Pedder for the ‘longest drive’. Following DGC’s COVID-19 protocols, the presentation ceremony has been scheduled to take place after Ramadan.
