Doha: The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) organised two virtual lectures for employers, managers, and heads of departments who work at companies and factories located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Mesaieed Industrial City, and Dukhan Area.

Director of the Programs and Education Department at NHRC, Hamad Salem Al Hajri, said the two lectures come within the framework of the campaign ‘Together We Work, You Have a Right You Have a Duty’, to raise awareness on human rights, and to enable employers and workers to know and enjoy their rights in accordance with the legislative developments in the country.

The campaign also aims to strengthen the role of companies in solving problems that prevent workers from exercising their rights effectively, and to identify any obstacles that may prevent employers and workers from enjoying their rights. Al Hajri said over 100 officials representing more than 10 companies in Ras Laffan Industrial City attended the first lecture, while 140 managers representing a number of factories in Mesaieed Industrial City, and 10 stations in the Dukhan Concession Area attended the second lecture.

The NHRC Director of the Programs and Education Department commended the remarkable interaction based on the questions and discussions that followed the two lectures, stressing that it resulted in employers acquiring the necessary knowledge and experience that qualifies them to resolve any labour disputes, or prevent the escalation of these disputes.

The two lectures included raising awareness of Labor Law No. 14 of 2004, and the general provisions that an employer must be familiar with. The lectures also addressed ways and means of resolving labour disputes, through the Labor Department and the Labor Dispute Resolution Committee.
