Hathab Tour: Al Amri wins Medium Tour in penultimate round

Doha: Qatari rider Jaber Rashid Al Amri yesterday guided Canavaro De Muze (E.T.) in a flawless routine to seal the top honours on the opening day of the penultimate round of the Hathab Equestrian Tour - 2019, yesterday.

At the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s Arena, Al Amri won the Medium Tour contest, clocking a time of 34.55 secs. Yesterday’s win earned Al Amri a prize cheque for QR5,000.

Quick Step, with Faleh Suwead Al Ajami in the saddle, finished the same task in 35.49 to win the second place which came with a prize of QR4,000. 

Fantast, ridden by Khalid Sanad Al Nuaimi, was third  with a time of 38.53 and won  QR3,000 for his effort. 

Rami Younis (Inzaghi Van Molenheide, 39.13 secs) and  Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi (Dilandra, (4) 32.56) completed the top five. 

Team Al Shaqab (127.25 secs) won the medium Tour team event in the as Al Qadi (Dilandra, 63.51), Mohammed Sultan Al Suwaidi (Numero Uno - T, 63.74) and Saeed Nasser Al Qadi (Daydreamer ET, 15 faults - 86.29) shared a prize of QR20,000.

With yesterday’s win, Al Shaqab are just one step away from winning the overall team title in this year’s Hathab Tour, and has collected 227 points so far. 

Team ExxonMobil, (4 errors - 131.05 secs, finished second and won QR12,000 as Team Lusail, (4 errors - 134.44 secs) won the third place and a prize cheque for QR8,000.

Earlier, in the Small Tour competition, Mohammed Al Ghazali and Maradonna 25 topped an impressive line-up of 43 entries.

The 18-year-old Qatar Armer Forces-owned gelding completed an error-free ride in 48.27 secs to win QR2,500 in prize money.

Dusty, with Khalifa Abdulla Al Khaldi in the saddle, completed the same task in 49.78 to win QR2,000 while Fudine, ridden by Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi,  clocked a time of 50.24 secs  to book the remaining podium spot. Al Qadi got richer by QR1,500.

Mohammed Saeed Haidan (Ziezo) and Faris Saad Al Qahtani (News Boy) rounded up the top five and secured prize cheques for QR1,000 and QR700 respectively.

At the end of the opening day’s action of the penultimate round, Hathab Series Tournament Director, Ali Al Rumaihi expressed his satisfaction on the progress of the event.

“All the riders, organizers and referees are happy with the immense success of the tournament which is in its second year now. The success has been achieved thanks to the joint efforts between the Qatar Equestrian Federation and Al Shaqab,” Al Rumaihi said.

“The current season has witnessed several many innovations and technical and organizational developments, and there is also a huge improvement in the number of riders. The last few rounds saw a number of new faces, competing against the leading riders, showing that the country’s equestrian sport is going in the right direction.

“The media also played a huge role in the success of the tournament, which is an initiative of H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee.  

“I invite all equestrian lovers to support the Qatari riders in the last two rounds to help them give their best and close the season with top performances,” Al Rumaihi said.
