Al Ahli SC yesterday announced that they signed Australian star Shane Lowry for one season.

“Really happy to sign with @ahliqat in the @QSL looking forward to meeting my team mates and embracing this opportunity,” Lowry posted on his Twitter handle yeseterday.

Lowry left Perth based Hyundai A-League Premier champions Perth Glory.

Lowry was the defensive pillar of the club’s maiden A-League success last season.

He made 71 Hyundai A-League appearances in total following his initial arrival from Birmingham City in 2016 and wore the captain’s armband on multiple occasions, including in the club’s high profile friendly with Premier League giants Manchester United last month.

Al Ahli had also signed Abel Hernandez, Hernan Perez, Mohammed Diame, and Nabil El Zhar. Lowry completes the total number of foreign players Al Ahli can sign for next season.

The team held a 20-day training camp in The Netherlands in the summer, during which they played a total of five friendlies.

Al Ahli will look to improve on their showing of last year, which saw them finish fifth in the league with 34 points.
