Al Rayyan municipality tops in building permit issuance in April

The total number of building permits issued by the municipalities reached 500 in April, compared to 483 permits in April last year, according to the data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA). The PSA yesterday released the seventy-sixth issue of the monthly Statistics of Building Permits and Building Completion certificates issued by all municipalities in the country. 
Building permits and building completion certificates data are important as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy. 
Al Rayyan municipality came at the top in terms of issuance of building permits as it issued 162 permits, accounting for 32 percent share in of the total issued permits. Doha municipality came in second place with 105 permits, with a share of 21 percent, followed by Al Wakrah municipality with 79 permits (16 percent) and Al Da’ayen municipality with 73 permits.
Umm Slal municipality issued 30 permits, Al Khor municipality 27 permits, Al Sheehaniya municipality 14 permits while Al Shamal municipality issued 10 permits.
In terms of type of permits issued, data indicated that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) accounted 45 percent (227 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of April  2021, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 51 percent (254 permits), and fencing permits had a share of 4 percent (19 permits) in total permits issued.
In terms of new residential buildings permits data, villas’ topped the list, accounting for 73 percent (135 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 18 percent (33 permits) and apartments buildings by 7 percent (13 permits).
On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 42 percent (18 permits), followed by industrial buildings e.g. workshops and factories with 28 percent (12 permits), then other non-residential building with 12 percent (5 permits).
Regarding data on building completion certificates issued during April 2021, according to their geographical distribution, the report noted that Al Rayyan municipality came at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued were 93 certificates, accounting for 28 percent of the total issued certificates, while municipality of Al Wakrah came in second place with 72 certificates,  with a share of 22 percent, followed by municipality of Al Doha with 61 certificates having a share of 18 percent. Al Da’ayen municipality issued 54 certificates Umm Slal issued 23 certificates, Al Khor issued 16, Al Sheehaniya issued 8 and Al Shammal issued 7 certificates.
In terms of type of certificates issued, data showed that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitutes 69 percent (232 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during April 2021, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 31 percent (102 certificates).
In terms of new residential buildings completion certificates data,  the report noted that that villas’ top the list, accounting for 69 percent (132 certificates) of all new residential buildings completion certificates.
Comparing the number of certificates issued in April 2021 with those issued in March, a decline of 15 percent was observed.
