With helping over one million passengers reunite with their loved ones in these trying times, Qatar Airways has built a reputation as the most trusted airline in the world with passengers, governments, embassies, travel trade and cargo companies.

Working closely with governments and NGOs, Qatar Airways cargo has transported over 100,000 tonnes of medical and aid supplies to impacted regions around the world. “Since mid-February, Qatar Airways has helped reunite over one million passengers with their loved ones, operating a mix of scheduled and charter services plus extra sectors. In the past several weeks, the airline has helped repatriate over 45,000 passengers back home to France; 70,000 home to Germany and over 100,000 customers back to t h e U n i t e d Kingdom,” Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, H E Akbar Al Baker said when approached by The Peninsula remotely.

“Working with governments and group travel companies around the world, the airline has operated over 100 charters and extra sector flights taking home over 30,000 stranded travellers. Qatar Airways has built a reputation as the most trusted airline in the world with passengers, governments, embassies, travel trade and cargo companies for our continued dedication to our mission of taking people home,” said H E Akbar Al Baker.

With global air freight capacity declining, Qatar Airways Cargo has increased operations to ensure the continuity of global trade and movement of essential medical and aid supplies. “The airline continues to operate a significant cargo schedule with almost 175 flights per day. The cargo operator has worked closely with governments and NGOs to transport over 100,000 tonnes of medical and aid supplies to impacted regions around the world on both scheduled and charter services, the equivalent of roughly 1000 fully loaded Boeing 777 freighters,” he said.

“To continue to fulfil demand the Group’s cargo division is also utilising passenger aircraft to carry freightonly to destinations in China, Europe, India and the Middle East.” The airline’s yesterday’s announcement of to offer complementary tickets to frontline healthcare professionals is gesture to express thanks for their heroic work.

“We are giving away 100,000 return tickets to frontline healthcare professionals to say thank you for their heroic work looking after people during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Their heroic display of kindness, dedication, and professionalism has saved hundreds of thousands of lives around the world.

As we deliver on our mission to take people home, we want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of healthcare heroes around the world with this ticket giveaway,” he said. “The airline is committed to rebuilding its network and managing growth carefully, first by returning to over 50 destinations by end of May and then 80 by June. We were disappointed that planned routes to exciting new destinations such as Osaka, Santorini, Dubrovnik, Cebu, Lyon and Accra were unfortunately postponed due to COVID-19,” said H E Akbar Al Baker.

“As we rebuild our network, we will carefully examine passenger demand and travel restrictions in relation to borders and airports so passengers can continue to travel with the world’s best 5 star airline,” added Al Baker.
