Bassem Hemeida clinched Qatar's first gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkiye, yesterday when he outperformed home hero and former Olympic bronze medallist Yasmani Copello in the men’s 400 metre hurdles final. Hemeida won the gold in 48.67 seconds at the Konya Metropolitan Stadium as Copello clocked a time of 48.86 secs to win the silver. Algeria’s Lahoulou Abdelmalik came third in 49.15 secs.
