Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) Board Member for International Relations Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al Thani said that the State of Qatar has made great efforts in the field of combating cybercrime and protecting its information infrastructure whether for individuals of for groups.
Addressing a webinar on“The Concept of Cyber Security and Protection from Cyber Attacks”, Sheikh Thani said that the Qatari legislations are keen on strengthening the concept of cyber security and electronic protection. The webinar, held on Monday, was organised by the Law Ambassadors’ Entitative. Sheikh Thani also noted that Qatar attached the cyber security a special interest, pointing out that it has acceded to several conventions in the field of combating cybercrime and hosted the 13th United Nations Conference in 2015 and the International Conference of KitCom in 2019.
“The Ministry of Transport and Communication established the cyber security sector to meet challenges to ICT infrastructure, while Law No. (14) of the year 2014 on combating cybercrime was issued,” he added.
He referred to the hacking of Qatar New Agency website in 2017 and subsequent cybercrimes is a clear evidence that cybercrime has become a global threat that requires international cooperation to protect electronic information and ensure its continuity, protect its privacy, and protect citizens and governments from the risks of such crimes. Sheikh Thani noted that after the pandemic of Coronavirus, applications were used on mobile phones for citizens and residents, affirming that the state, when applying this procedure, was keen to protect the privacy of personal and private information of all individuals.
