Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality significantly expanded the country’s green infrastructure, public recreational facilities and biodiversity conservation efforts in 2025, opening seven new public parks, introducing 28 new animals and birds to its zoo, and producing more than 1.13 million plants, according to the ministry’s 2025 Annual Report.
The report outlines the ministry’s key achievements during a year that witnessed notable progress across various sectors and accelerated implementation of initiatives supporting Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in areas of sustainability, environmental protection, digital transformation and public service development.
According to the report, the Public Parks Department inaugurated seven new public parks, further increasing the availability of green spaces and recreational destinations for families and communities across the country. The newly opened parks include Rawdat Al Qadeem Park, Hazm Al Markhiya Park, Al Mashaf Park, Al Nabaj, Al Thumama Park, Al Wakra Central Park, Dhal Al Hammam Park, and Al Athal (Al Mearad) Park.
The Zoo (Al Khor Family Park & Zoo) also recorded significant achievements in wildlife conservation and public education. During the year, the park registered 28 new animals and birds and successfully performed 22 veterinary anesthesia procedures as part of its animal healthcare programme.
The park strengthened its educational role by organising 160 environmental awareness tours, benefiting approximately 160,000 visitors, while providing educational opportunities that promote wildlife conservation and environmental awareness among children and families.
Environmental awareness initiatives extended beyond the Park. The ministry launched the Wildlife Protection Campaign, which reached around 17,000 participants, encouraging greater public awareness of wildlife conservation and environmental protection.
The department also received two prestigious awards during the year, including the Best Social Responsibility Initiative Award for the public sector and recognition for one of its sustainable initiatives.
The report revealed that the ministry’s nurseries produced 1,132,000 plants in 2025, including 588,000 flowering plants, 219,000 trees, 208,000 shrubs, and 117,000 ground-cover plants.
A total of 670,000 plants were distributed during the year, including 379,000 flowering plants, 129,000 shrubs, 81,000 trees, and 81,000 ground-cover plants, supporting public parks, roads, roundabouts and landscaping projects nationwide.
The report also highlighted the completion of the “Plant Your Home” programme in 46 schools, involving 460 students, while 32 environmental awareness workshops attracted more than 11,400 students, reflecting the ministry’s continued focus on promoting environmental responsibility among younger generations.
