Al Shaqab Racing’s Umran continues winning spree

Victorious at Mons on April 1, Umran (FR) again made the Al Shaqab Racing colours proud by winning the Prix Djerba Oua at Dax, France yesterday.

The Elisabeth Bernard runner, having benefited from Gary Sanchez’s claim, initially stalked the leader Ainhoa Damili.

After taking the latter’s measure 400m from the post, he was not hard pressed to contain the attack of Hispahan. Umran eventually won the 7f Class 3 run for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians by a length.

This marked the fouryear-old colt’s third win as he also shone in Toulouse last year. Bred by Al Shaqab Racing, Umran is from the first crop of Mister Ginoux.

Dixie Darlene (Wiking), the dam, won a Gr PA 3 race in the US, and she has foaled no less than three Gr 1 PA winners, Dixies Delight (Sam Tiki), Dixies Valentine (Nivour de Cardonne) and Grilla (Kong). Al Shaqab Racing’s Nagano wins Prix Du Petit Chantilly Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred Nagano (FR) opened her account at the second attempt, winning the Prix Du Petit Chantilly, a maiden for three-year-olds over 1,800 metres. The Matthieu Brasme-trained filly began her career with a second place at Montluçon on April 18.

The battle for the lead was very competitive in the last strides between her and Particuliere Dream, but Nagano, with Tristan Baron in the saddle, Tristan Baron managed to snatch victory by a nose. Bred by Al Shaqab Racing, NAGANO is a daughter of that concern’s sire Olympic Glory and Barenia (Zamindar).

The latter has already produced a previous winner, Rosehill (Australia). Barenia is currently plying her trade as a broodmare in Qatar.
