Lord Mayor of City of London to visit Qatar to strengthen trade links

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, an Ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services industry, will visit Qatar this week at the head of a business delegation which aims to strengthen trade links between the City of London and Qatar.

William Russell, the Lord Mayor, is expected to meet with Minister of Finance, HE Ali Shareef Al Emadi, CEO of Qatar Investment Authority, H E Mansoor Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, and the Governor of Qatar Central Bank, H E Sheikh Abdulla binSaoud Al Thani.

The Lord Mayor will also deliver opening remarks at the Qatar-UK Financial Services Event, an event jointly organised by Qatar Central Bank and the UK Department for International Trade, taking place on 12 February.  Lord Mayor Russell, the 692nd incumbent of a role that dates back centuries, is the leader of London’s ‘Square Mile,’ or financial district, and has over thirty years’ experience in City, including holding senior positions in the national and international banking sector.

Commenting on his visit to Qatar, William Russell, the Lord Mayor of London said: “Qatar is an important investment partner for the City of London and the wider UK. We strongly value our long-standing partnerships with Qatar’s financial institutions, and the City of London also stands ready to support Qatar as it develops its financial services sector.
