Doha: Qatar will hold a 13-day training camp in Spain as part of their preparations to defend the Asian Games handball crown.
The camp will be held from June 19 to July 1 and is expected to fine-tune Qatari players ahead of the world’s second biggest multi-sport event, Asian Games which will be staged in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
Qatar, who won the Asian Games title four years ago when they defeated South Korea in a thrilling final, will be looking to carry forward the form which helped them become the Asian champions earlier this year.
In January, Qatar clinched their Asian Handball title for a third consecutive year when they outplayed Bahrain 33-31 in the final played in Suwon, South Korea. When they made it to the semi-final stage of the tournament in Suwon, Qatar also secured a berth in next year’s IHF Handball World Cup which will take place in Denmark and Germany.
Few days ago, Qatar began their preparations for the Asiad by announcing an 18-member squad.
Coached by Spanish tactician Valero Rivera, the Qatari squad includes players from Al Sadd, Al Arabi, Al Gharafa and Al Rayyan.
The 18-member squad: Ahmed Nader Salah, Rachid Youssef, Zine El Din Boumenjel (Al Sadd), Rafael De Costa Caboti, Amin Noureddine Qheis, Daniel Serche, Ahmed Mohamed Meddi, Wagdy Ibrahim Sinan, Fress Mustapha Al Shayeb, Bilal Lebinka, Alaeddin Balrachid, Al-Zawawi (Arabi), Abdul Razzaq Ahmed Murad (Al Gharafa), Amin Muwafaq Zukar (Rayyan), Petrand Rooney, Mustapha Amir Hiba and Abdul Aziz Buhandi Hilal.
