School to refund “optional fees” following complaints from parents

Doha: The Indian School, against which the parents had started an online petition for charging “optional fees”, has decided to refund the fees to those who have already paid.

 “We the management of DPS- Modern Indian School is pleased to announce that the optional fee will be refunded to all parents who have paid the same,” the note put up on the school portal said.

 

 

The Peninsula had reported in April that a group of parents had started a petition on change.org addressed to the Private School Section of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education saying that the DPS-MIS management is imposing an additional “optional fees” in addition to the fee approved by the ministry. More than1,400 people had signed the petition.

The parents claimed on the petition that it is not justified since if the fee is not paid, the students will not have access to study material published on their website.

A group of parents had approached the ministry to air their grievances. According to a parent who went with the group, the officials at the ministry were very concerned and respective.

The access to study material was restored later for all the students.

Parents expressed relief and appreciated the ministry’s effort in the whole affair.

Meanwhile, we tried contacting the school authorities, but no one was available for comment. As and when we receive a comment from the school we will update the story.
