DOHA: The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) yesterday announced that Qatar will host the opening round of the 2019 World Tour Platinum.
The ITTF also announced that five other countries will host the tour to begin next March. In 2018, Qatar hosted the second round of the ITTF World Tour in March with over 220 players from 43 countries taking part in the competition.
Khalil Al Mohannadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) said that selecting Qatar to host the first round of the ITTF World Tour is an achievement for QTTA and for the Qatari Table Tennis in General.
ITTF’s Head of World Tour Vicky Eleftheriade said: “We are pleased to see more interest in the World Tour from hosts and other partners each year, and we will continue to push the Tour forward to ensure growth in terms of popularity and commercially.”
