Al Capdamunt (Shalaa x La Pedrera) opened his scorecard on his second racecourse start when winning the Prix Haras Des Elys – Prix Nicolas Dieu, a maiden for 3-year-olds over 1,350 metres at Wissembourg, France.
Owned by Al Shaqab Racing, the bay gelding had finished third on his debut at Saint-Cloud on the 6th April and facing a less competitive field on Saturday, won comfortably.
He is trained by Henri-François Devin in Chantilly and was ridden by jockey Clement Lecœuvre to 1½-length victory in front of the G. Geislertrained and Eva-Maria Geisler-ridden Dontellyourmother (Biraaj x Madda’s Force), with another 4 lengths to the third, the R. Rohne-trained and Nicol Polli-ridden Premero Pasado (Pomellato x Last Storm). From the first crop of AL Shaqab Racing sire Shalaa, Al Capdamunt was bred by Dunmore Stud.
He was bought as a foal at the Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale. His dam, La Pedrera, is out of the Group 3 winner Gay Hellene, dam of Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère winner Naaqoos (Oasis Dream) and the Group 3 winner Barastraight (Barathea); both are sires.
