The way Qatar deals with other nations and its persistent policy of helping resolve disputes across the world through mediation have always won praise from world leaders thanks to the wise Qatari leadership and country’s mature foreign policy.
An important pillar of Qatar’s foreign policy is that it abstains from interfering in the internal affairs of other countries and cooperates with all nations which seek peace.
In yet another instance highlighting the depth of country’s foreign policy, Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani, member of Qatari delegation, strongly reiterated Qatar’s rejection of any attempt to use policies of dictation and intervention to undermine the sovereignty of other countries at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, before the Sixth Committee on the Report of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organisation.
He also expressed keenness in resolving disputes peacefully with the support of the relevant organs of the United Nations.
Qatar always respects international treaties and conventions and also works only in line with them to avoid any sort of moves which disrespect them. This statement of Qatar at the UN General Assembly is highly relevant in the wake of the current global developments as it sends a strong message to the nations that undermine the sovereignty of others.
For Qatar, the United Nations is an indispensable and inclusive international forum for addressing issues related to international cooperation, peace, security, sustainable development, human rights and the rule of law.
Reiterating its unflinching and unwavering stance on its sovereignty, Qatar stressed that prohibition of the use or threat of the use of force is one of the main pillars of the multilateral international system. By mentioning the illegal unilateral actions and the unjust blockade imposed on it by the neighbouring nations, Qatar reiterated its uncompromising stance on such wicked moves that hamper peace establishment.
Qatar has termed siege a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law, and it also undermines UN efforts for peace. Qatar also stressed that the peaceful settlement of disputes is an important instrument for the maintenance of international peace and security.
Qatar also appreciates any effort by any agency for global peace. In one such a move, Qatar lauded the efforts of the International Court of Justice in promoting international law, which helps to settle disputes by peaceful means, at the UN Assembly.
Qatar, based on its consistent policy of settling disputes by peaceful means, is always willing to move an extra mile to settle disputes by peaceful means with the support of the concerned organs of the United Nations.
