Celebrating arts, culture, and sports

For the past few weeks, Qatar has turned into a big festival celebrating life in full colour and vigour. It has been days of non-stop action, which is of the highest international standards plus inclusive for all. The matches inside the stadium have already won awesome praise from players, coaches, experts and international leaders. Talking about the group stage matches, which got over a few days back, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak said, “hats off to Qatar for hosting an incredible World Cup so far. The group stages will be remembered as one of the all-time greats.”

Aside from the football matches, which are the centerpieces of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the various entertainment activities organised around the country are also winning the hearts of visiting fans. The FIFA Fan Festival at Al Bidda park recently welcomed the one-millionth visitor to the most sought-after venue for fans to watch the match on the big screen with various musicians performing in between to keep them on their toes throughout the evening.

Qatar is upping the entertainment quotient around the World Cup in the coming days with international dance and music programmes by the world’s top-performing artistes with more than 55 site-specific performances at some of Qatar’s most significant architectural landmarks from December 5 to 20. 

Festival in Motion, presented by Qatar Creates and co-curated by two internationally acclaimed artists: French choreographer and filmmaker Benjamin Millepied, Artistic Director and Co-founder of the influential L.A. Dance Project, choreographer of the film Black Swan, and former Director of the Paris Opera Ballet, and renowned American composer Nico Muhly whose music has been performed at the Metropolitan Opera, English National Opera, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, and others. 

Speaking of the programme Qatar Museums Chairperson H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani said: “For the World Cup we have invited Benjamin Millepied and Nico Muhly to curate modern dance performances representing dancers from all around the world. The Festival in Motion, the first of its kind, will combine the discipline of dance with architecture, art and music. We hope that these performances will inspire people to think of the unlimited possibilities of creativity.” 

This 13-day programme offers the visiting fans and the residents of Qatar a golden opportunity to enjoy for free the performances by masters in their field celebrating an amalgamation of dance, music and architecture at exceptional locations in Qatar. Art, culture, sports, Qatar 2022 has it all.
