Safeguarding sovereignty

Qatar remains firmly committed to safeguarding its sovereignty, protecting critical infrastructure, and preserving national and regional stability through coordinated defence measures and sustained diplomatic engagement. The country has strongly rejected claims from Iran that its actions were directed at US bases, stating that such narratives have no basis in reality and appear to be attempts to justify an act of clear aggression and to draw the region into a wider conflict.

In this context, Qatar sent three identical letters to the UNSC regarding developments in the Iranian assault on its territory, which constitutes a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and a direct compromise of its security and territorial integrity, as well as a rejected escalation that imperils the region’s security and stability.

Doha has consistently pursued sincere mediation efforts to prevent escalation, working closely with fellow Gulf states that strongly support these diplomatic initiatives. Qatar has long prioritised dialogue and de-escalation as the most effective path toward maintaining regional security.

Yesterday, the Cabinet commended the decisive role of the Qatar Armed Forces, under the leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in successfully countering the successive waves of Iranian attacks that targeted several areas in the country, as well as its high level of readiness, security vigilance, and joint coordination among the concerned authorities, thus confirming its capability to protect the country’s security and firmly address any external threat.

In reaffirming its principled stance, Qatar has made clear that it will not allow acts of aggression to undermine its sovereignty or destabilise the wider region. While maintaining the highest levels of vigilance and preparedness to defend its territory, the State remains steadfast in its commitment to dialogue, international law, and constructive diplomacy as the foundation for lasting peace.
