DOHA: In partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland, the Swiss Business Council in Qatar (SwissBCQ) celebrated its tenth anniversary this week by recognising individuals and companies that have significantly contributed to strengthening Qatari-Swiss ties and laying a solid foundation for collaboration in innovation, sustainability, and business.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Qatar to the Swiss Confederation, H E Mohammed bin Jaham Al Kuwari, Ambassador of Switzerland to Qatar, H E Florence Tinguely Mattli, and the President of the SwissBCQ, Dr. Fariborz Samadian, along with other officials and business representatives.

Among the awardees, Ambassador Al Kuwari was honoured with the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to strengthening cooperation between the two countries and his pivotal role in advancing Qatar–Switzerland relations across the economic, technological, cultural, and other fields. Expressing his appreciation, Ambassador Al Kuwari described the award as a meaningful milestone in advancing bilateral ties between the two countries.

During her opening remarks, the Ambassador of Switzerland stressed that the country offers a wealth of expertise. “These strengths provide a robust basis for cooperation as Qatar moves forward with its Vision 2030, opening new avenues for partnerships grounded in excellence, trust, and common goals,” she said.

“The Swiss Business Council in Qatar reflects a spirit of curiosity and growth, and it is daring to explore, take initiatives, forge new bonds, and develop new skills.” She stated that numerous Swiss delegations are expected to visit Doha before the end of the year to take part in several forums and conferences.

The Ambassador also remarked that there have been a number of developments in recent months with critical cooperation agreements signed by Qatar and Switzerland on mediation, adding another important dimension to close dialogue.

“The years ahead will be a time for new ideas, creative energy, and expanded partnerships. I have no doubt that the Swiss Business Council in Qatar will become an even stronger, brighter, and more dynamic organisation,” Ambassador Mattli added.

Speaking at the event, Samadian thanked the Swiss embassy. “Their guidance, assistance, and encouragement have been instrumental in helping us navigate challenges, connect with key stakeholders, and create meaningful opportunities for our members. The Embassy’s partnership reminds us that true collaboration between nations is built not only on trade, but on trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision,” Dr. Samadian said.

He also reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to ongoing cooperation and to exploring new opportunities for Swiss companies seeking to expand into the Qatari market, guided by a strategic vision centred on innovation and sustainability, in alignment with Qatar’s goals for economic diversification.

Over the years, ties between Qatar and the Swiss Confederation have grown significantly, especially in technology, culture, and the broader economy.
