Doha, Qatar: Nine schools have won the fifth edition of the Seashore Green School Award for the 2025-2026 academic year, recognising their efforts in promoting environmental sustainability, recycling and resource conservation.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in collaboration with Seashore Group, honoured the winning schools during a closing ceremony held at the ministry’s theatre under the theme “Five Years of Impact”.

The event also recognised outstanding student and teacher sustainability ambassadors and an innovative environmental device. The event was attended by Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater.

The fifth edition attracted 65 schools from across Qatar, including 51 government schools and 14 private schools. Following the evaluation process, nine schools secured the top three positions across primary, preparatory and secondary levels, with five government schools and four private schools among the winners.

At the primary level, Lababa Bint Al Hareth Primary School for Girls secured first place, followed by Taiba Primary School for Girls in second place and Eadad International Academy (Ain Khaled) in third.

In the preparatory category, Jordanian Schools in Qatar took first place, while Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib Preparatory School for Boys came second and Al Tamkeen Comprehensive School secured third place.

In the secondary category, Qatar Technical Secondary School for Girls won first place, followed by Qatar Leadership Academy in second place and Jassim bin Hamad Secondary School for Boys in third.

Al Shahaniya Preparatory School for Girls won the Best Device Award for its outstanding environmental innovation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Maryam Abdullah Al Mohannadi said promoting sustainability awareness among students was an integral part of the ministry’s mission to build a generation conscious of its responsibilities towards the environment and the country’s resources.

She noted that sustainability was rooted in Islamic values that encourage moderation, responsible consumption and the proper utilisation of resources.

Al Mohannadi stressed that sustainability was not the responsibility of specialists alone, but began with simple everyday practices. She highlighted the role of education in transforming sustainability from a theoretical concept into conscious behaviour practised by students and extended to their families and the wider community.

Chief Executive Officer of Seashore Group Salem Saeed Al Mohannadi said the award’s five-year journey had gone beyond competition to become an initiative aimed at embedding environmental awareness and developing a more conscious and responsible generation.

He emphasised the need to move from raising awareness to establishing sustainable practices, turning environmental initiatives into daily habits among students at school, at home and in the wider community.
