Doha: Several buildings in Doha were covered with the Turkish flag on Friday to celebrate the 99th Republic Day of Turkiye.

High-rise buildings including some of the most prominent landmarks in Qatar were lit up with the Turkish flag to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic.

The buildings included Al Jaber Twin Towers in Lusail, The Torch Tower, Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & convention Hotel, The View Hospital, Iconic Building 2022, and The Eighteenth Tower.

Building lit up with Turkish flag carried the message: “We congratulate Türkiye on the 99th Republic Day”. 

On this occasion, Turkish Ambassador H E Mustafa Göksu, said: “We thank our Qatari brothers for the great celebration that we saw at all levels on the occasion of the 99th Republic Day. It reflects the true depth of the relationship between our two countries.”

Ambassador Göksu also thanked all parties that placed the Turkish flag on their buildings on this day.

On Thursday, the Turkish embassy in Qatar held an official reception on the occasion of the Republic Day at the ambassador’s residence, attended by a number of Qatari ministers and Ambassadors of Arab and foreign countries, as well as a number of Arab and foreign military attaches, businessmen and media figures in Qatar. On Friday, it held a special reception for Turkish citizens residing in Qatar.

Türkiye celebrates the Republic Day on October 29 every year, which is the anniversary of the declaration of the Republic by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1923.
