DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has participated in a session on supporting Syrians, meeting their humanitarian needs, and launching the Qatari initiative “QUEST” to educate Syrian refugees, organised on the sidelines of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
QC participated with national and international organisations in QUEST initiative with a contribution of approximately $20m.
Many international humanitarian organisations, experts and specialists in relief and charity work participate in the event, which included presenting papers.
The event, organised by Qatar Charity is a culmination of its contribution and participation in a number of meetings on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, said Mohammed bin Ali Al Ghamdi, the Executive Director of International Development Department, QC.
QC attended a special session on providing support to Syrians and meeting their humanitarian needs, and launched the Qatari initiative “QUEST” that was announced by H E Sultan Al Muraikhi, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, to educate Syrian children with an estimated cost of $100m. “QUEST” initiative is part of the partnership between Qatar development Fund and some Qatari humanitarian organisations (Qatar Charity, Education above all, ROTA, Silatech, Raf), as well as other main partners including UNICEF, OCHA and UNHCR.
He added that the initiative aims to enable Syrian children have a better future and a decent life. It is also designed to support Syrian refugees inside Syria and in the four neighbouring countries —  Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey. He said that QC’s contribution to the initiative is about $20m.
