DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has completed 4,750 income-generating projects in over 62 countries around the world.
The projects aim to make a difference in the lives of poor families to enable them to become self-reliant and preserve their dignity.
The projects generate success stories and act as a starting point to improve the conditions of the families.
One of the success stories QC has made through these projects is of a young man, Ahmed Rebhi Tatar, from the besieged Gaza Strip, who has been changed from an unemployed youth to a productive man who supports his family.
QC in Gaza has funded Ahmed to open a small perfume shop. Ahmad, while reviewing perfume bottles on shelves, said establishing the project was like a dream for him and that he had been trying hard previously to open it but he couldn’t due to the difficult financial circumstances.
However, the dream came true after he applied for support through one of the charities in Gaza — Wafa Association, which applied to QC for support and fund for the project.
“I saved my family from hunger. QC supported me with QR4,382 to help me hire the shop and purchase incense and aromatic oils,” said Ahmad.
He said his daily income averages QR40 which is sufficient to cover his family’s needs. The number of beneficiaries of QC’s income-generating projects in Gaza has reached about 1,000.
The projects range from providing transportation or cows, goats and reclamation of agricultural land, or opening shops, among others.
Mohamed Abu Haloub, Director,  QC office in Gaza, congratulated the owners of the small projects.
He said the projects aim to help open small income-generating sources to contribute to the reduction of unemployment, raising the income of beneficiaries and increasing production capacity of the national economy.
He stressed the importance of strengthening self-confidence of the young people through projects that ensure good use of their energy and direct it towards production. The Peninsula
