Doha: The Ministry of Municipality (MoM), represented by the Agricultural Affairs Department in collaboration with the Food Security Department, organized a workshop to mark the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, which is observed annually on September 29.
The event is part of the MoM's efforts to reinforce food sustainability and raise awareness of the criticality of reducing food loss and waste.
Attending the event were the Assistant Director of the MoM's Agricultural Affairs Department, Adel Al Yafei, several officials and functionaries from the ministry, alongside experts from the Agricultural Affairs and Food Security Sector, and representatives from Qatar University and Hassad Food Company.
The workshop focused on the salient challenges related to food loss and waste, weighing in on the best practices to reduce food loss across various phases, in terms of production, storage, distribution, and consumption.
The event also featured a presentation on raising awareness of agricultural losses on World Food Loss and Waste Day, presented by Dr. Mohamed Al Sar Awad from the Agricultural Affairs Department, and a presentation on policies and strategies for raising awareness on food waste, delivered by Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ghazal from the Food Security Department.
Participants underscored the importance of spreading the culture of consumption rationalization and reduction of loss and waste, in addition to strengthening resource sustainability in alignment with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
