Bogota: A session of official talks between Qatar and Colombia, chaired by Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President Juan Manuel Santos, was held at the Presidential Palace in capital Bogota yesterday.
The Emir and the Colombian President discussed relations between the two countries in various fields and ways of promoting them in line with the keenness of both sides and their quest to further develop them at all levels, especially in the areas of investment and energy.
The two sides also reviewed several regional and international issues.
The session was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir and Colombian ministers and senior officials.
The Emir was accorded an official reception on his arrival at the Presidential Palace.
The Emir and President Santos witnessed the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs).
A memorandum of understanding on political consultations between both countries’ foreign ministries was signed to strengthen relations and cooperation through the establishment of a mechanism.
Other agreements signed include, one on abolishing visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, special and official passports; an MoU on the exchange of expertise and cooperation in legal and judicial affairs between Qatar’s Ministry of Justice and Colombian Ministry of Justice and Law of Colombia to expand areas of cooperation to include legal and judicial affairs, and promote the exchange of expertise and information and training.
Both leaders also attended the signing of an MoU between Qatar Investment Authority and ProColombia on cooperation in the field of investment through activities and exchange of information on investment opportunities in various sectors of the two countries. The Emir’s delegation and Colombian officials were also present.
The Emir also attended a luncheon banquet hosted by President Santos in his and his delegation’s honour at the Presidential Palace. Several Colombian ministers were also present.
