Doha: Qatar has expressed its full support for the international efforts which aim to hold the Syrian regime accountable for the heinous crimes it committed against the brotherly people of Syria, including the use of chemical weapon in the city of Douma in the Eastern Ghouta region in April 2018, and to prosecute war criminals in Syria before the international justice.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW's) report, which concluded that the Syrian regime was responsible for the deadly attack on the city of Douma, reveals to the world once again the ugliness and brutality of this unscrupulous and inhuman regime, which is still continuing its horrific policy of mass killings, scorched lands and destroyed cities, crossing all the red lines imposed by morals and required by law.

In this respect, the Ministry underscored that any political solution to the Syrian crisis will not lead to a successful and sustainable result without holding accountable those involved in committing these atrocities. The Ministry also renewed the State of Qatar's firm stance on the necessity of reaching a political solution, negotiated between all Syrian parties, in accordance with the Geneva Declaration (1) and the UN Security Council Resolution No. (2254), in a way that preserves Syria's unity and sovereignty and realizes Syrian people's aspirations for Security and Stability.
