DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched an initiative to provide Iftar meals at the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, at a cost of $130,000 (QR473,000).
The initiative was launched in cooperation with Al Zakah Committee of Jerusalem, which provides Iftar in the yards of Al Aqsa Mosque daily. QRCS has contributed $65,000.
Some 1,200 food packets have been distributed to the visitors to the Al Aqsa Mosque, poor families of the Old City, the orphans registered with the Al Zakah Committee and the motorists.
The Iftar packets contain rice, sugar, flour, green beans, seeds, lentils, macaroni, sweets, edible oil, jam, and dates. A packet is enough for a family for 30 days.
QRCS Executive Director Fahad bin Mohammed Al Naimi said: “Before the start of Ramadan, we began preparing for this project to promote the feelings of solidarity with our brothers in Jerusalem, and provide them with necessary food in these summer days”.
