Dominant Blair claims two wins; Al Shatti, Jaffar impress on track

DOHA: British rider Ryan Blair yesterday won the MX1 category in third round of races of the Losail MX Championship held at the Losail MX track.

KTM rider Mohammed Al Balooshi from the UAE was second while Moaath Al Ansari of Kuwait finished third. 

Al Balooshi was leading in the first few laps but Blair overtook him and lead until the end of the race.

“The track is very good. It is a world championship track, very well prepared and I had a lot of fun,” Blair said. 

“I had a problem at the start but I managed to overtake Al Balooshi and win the race. I am very happy with my performance as it is my first race after three years. It is good to be back,” he added.

Al Balooshi said: “It was a good race for me. I was in lead for three laps but I was not comfortable with the jumps. When Ryan passed me, I just settled for second place. Tomorrow I go to Bahrain for Motocross round 1 and I defend the title there so I have to ride smart today and make no mistake.”

In the MX2, the Kuwaiti rider Abdullah Al Shatti with a KTM finished in first position of his category.

Hassan Al Nooraldin from Bahrain and Saeed Al Shenqiti from the UAE ended in second and third places respectively. 

Al Shatti said that the competition between him and the Emirati and Bahraini riders was tough. “It is my third win in a row and I will continue riding hard to win the championship at the end,” Al Shatti said.

Al Shenqiti thanked the QMMF for the good job ‘on the track and for related arrangements’.  

He said the track had been improved hoped to participate in the coming rounds. 

“I want to be on the podium again,” he added.

In the second MX1 race, Blair won again in the MX1 category from the start till the end. The second place was secured by Moaath Al Ansari from Kuwait while Al Balooshi finished third.

In the MX2 category, Mohammed Jaffar from Kuwait clinched the issue. 

“In the first race I made a bad start.  I fell down as I had a problem with the clutch and fortunately my mechanics fixed it,” Jaffar said. “In race 2, I was ready and now I am happy to win it. I found the track very nice and well prepared. All my thanks go to QMMF for all the works on the track,” Jaffar added. 

The second place was secured by Al Shatti while Al Shenqiti finished third again.

At the end of the event, Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah, the QMMF president, said: “I thank all the participants for showing great skills on their bikes. I hope they enjoyed themselves. We sure enjoyed their riding skills.”

In MX1 category, Moath Al Ansari is leading the points table with a tally of 119. American rider Dennis Stapleton is second (100 points) but he didn’t take part in the third round. Pierre Nakhla from Great Britain is in third place. 

Abdulla Al Shatti is leading the MX2 category with 129 points and is only 7 points ahead of Hassan Ahmed who is in second place.  Barak Al Jasmi with 106 points is in third spot.  The next round will be held December 20. THE PENINSULA
