The University of Calgary–Qatar (UCQ) staged its 2nd Annual Open House attracting a number of Qatar residents interested in pursuing a nursing career. “We are impressed and honoured by the constant growth and interest in our nursing programme. More and more people are realising the variety of opportunities a nursing career offers,” Lois Thornton, Acting Associate Dean, said.
“I care about people and I am interested in health sciences,” said Abdal Rahman, a young Qatari, who attended the event along with his father and grandfather, and who is keen on becoming a nurse. “My son really cares for people and loves to help them. I know he will succeed as a nurse. I am proud of him and support him in his career decision,” stated Ramdan Rahman.
“I want to help people and save lives,” says Suzette Isaac, a recent high school graduate who is also interested in being a nurse. She admits to being influenced by her mother who is a Dental Assistant at Hamad Hospital. “The University of Calgary has very high teaching standards, the instructors all come from Canada and the university has state-of-the art equipment and impressive facilities,” says Raiza Isaac. Hamad Hospital, Sidra Medical and Research Centre and Qatar Biobank representatives were on hand to provide information on student sponsorships. The Peninsula
