DOHA: Childhood Cultural Center and Qatar National Library (QNL), a member of Qatar Foundation, yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation at the CCC office in Katara.
The agreement was signed by Claudia Lux, Director, QNL, and Abdullah Hamed Al Mulla, Director, Public Relations and Communication, CCC. Several officials from CCC, QNL and media representatives were present.
The MoU will enable both sides to take part in each other’s activities, promote joint activities and events, hold awareness campaigns, implement activities to help children acquire reading habits and organise workshops, contests and other relevant programmes.
“The agreement is part of ongoing awareness, training efforts and activities aiming to enhance reading habits adopted by the centre since its establishment in 2002,” said Al Mulla.
“This is part of programmes and activities aiming to achieve all- rounded development of the child, including the national project for child awareness, the campaign of “I am Reading” launched in 2013,” he added.
“We are happy to have this MoU with the CCC,” said Lux, pointing out that the library has implemented in the past three to four years programmers focusing on child’s brain development from very early age to ensure success of children’s education and career.
She said QNL has many materials that can be accessed online and it has included children’s digital library, kid’s joy and space town which are nice features families and children can use.
“At the moment we are offering a lot of electronic resources, which are high-quality materials, to stimulate the brain for reading,” Lux said.
“The CCC will have direct access to these materials and include them in their activities. This partnership will give a push to reading activities in Qatar and we are very happy to sign the MoU. Children until 17 can become members of QNL and enjoy its services.
“It is important for us to have cooperation with everybody in Qatar who is supporting reading and cultural activities for children because we need children’s brain development. It is important that the rights of children and their role in society are acknowledged and this is the goal we will work together to achieve,” said Lux.
