Olive International School students excel at debate championship

Doha: Olive International School Debate Teams of boys and girls rocked in the final rounds of Qatar Preparatory School Debate League Nationals on April 10, 2021, organised by Qatar Debate Centre, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. 

The Junior Girls team, which included Khadija Bint Johar, Umme Kulsum Meher and Anamika Priya, won the Open Grand Final Championship. They defeated Pakistan International School in the semi-finals which was an impromptu round on the motion.

The Junior Girls team of Olive International school, put up against their immediate opponents DPS Modern Indian School in the grand finale round. They opposed the motion on the floor, after engaging in war of words, team OIS was declared the Open Grand Final Champions.

The power-packed Junior Boys’ Debate Team, which included Adithya Pillai, Vassudev Vinod and Dhwanit Dave, bagged the runner-up position. 

Apart from these group awards, in the individual category of best speakers, Adithya Pillai and Nithen Aswath of OIS were awarded the 6th and 7th position respectively. 

The team of 18 Olivians were trained by the Debate Coach, Anu Thomas Abraham and the Debate Coordinator, Punam Antil. The team attended all the educative and enlightening workshops organized by the Qatar Debate team. The young debaters battled against several schools in Qatar in both the tournaments before getting qualified for the Qatar Debate Open Grand Final Championship. 

Olive International School won against many existing champions, though it was the first time that they participated in the Qatar Preparatory School Debate League. The principal and management congratulated teams and the teachers who trained them.
