Brussels: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met in Brussels, Belgium, on Wednesday with the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.
During the meeting, El-Sisi affirmed that his country looks forward to reinforcing cooperation with the European Union to implement both the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement on ending the war in the Gaza Strip and US President Donald Trump's plan in this regard.
In a statement, the Egyptian Presidency reported that El-Sisi reviewed Egypt's role in reaching the agreement in collaboration with the mediators, emphasizing the importance of enforcing the ceasefire in the Gaza enclave, ensuring the regular flow of humanitarian aid, and initiating the Gaza rebuilding process.
He noted the conference Egypt is poised to host on Gaza reconstruction and recovery in November.
On the other hand, El-Sisi pointed out that Europe has not been largely affected by the consequences of illegal immigration, owing to Egypt's efforts in this field, foremost of which was Egypt’s success in preventing the departure of illegal migration boats since September 2016, at a time when the country hosts as many as 10 million foreigners who have poured into Egypt from nations battered by crises and instability.
He stressed that achieving stability in those countries is the most effective way to reduce this phenomenon.
For her part, Kallas underscored the importance of maintaining the Palestinian Authority, affirming that the EU is ready to back Gaza reconstruction efforts, including the upcoming conference in Egypt in November.
She likewise stressed the importance of enforcing the ceasefire in Gaza and settling the crises in Sudan and Libya to ensure their unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, in addition to ending the war in Ukraine and upholding international law.
