DOHA: Putting their weight behind Hillary Clinton, Democratic Presidential Candidate, several American expats attending a discussion here yesterday dubbed Republic candidate Donald Trump as a threat to democratic order. The expats serving in various positions in Qatar expressed this view in one voice at “Presidential Predictions Forum”, held jointly by the American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar’s (AmCham Qatar) and Georgetown University, Qatar.
There is a high probability that Hillary Clinton will win the presidency, a panel of international media experts attending the lively debate at Grand Hayatt hotel observed.
“His (Trump’s) words seem to be threatening the peaceful transmission of power whether he wins or loses. Democracy works when people believe in the institutional process and if Trump says it is rigged he undermines people’s faith in that process,” said Jocelyn Mitchell, Assistant Professor of Liberal Arts at Northwestern University Qatar.
Clyde Wilcox Professor of Political Science at the Georgetown School of Foreign Service in Qatar described Trump as “ the most unprepared candidate, in my life time.”
Yasir Khan, Producer and Documentary filmmaker, Al-Jazeera English said that, from the media prescriptive he never expected that that Donald Trump would ever be nominated as a candidate. “I would say Trump is slow poison. All what Trump does is a total disaster.”
