UPDATE: According to eye witnesses the fire broke out at the Central market at around 12.30 and Civil Defense officials were battling the fire for hours. The fire was brought under contol and the Civil Defence officials are now inspecting the scene. According to tweets by MOI there were no injuries.
Fire gutted five shops including two supermarkets, which do wholesale business, near the Omani Souq in Central Market. The whole area was cordoned off by the police and traffic was diverted.
Another fire was reported in a waste treatment plant in Abu Hamour and was brought under control quickly by the fire fighters. No casualities were reported.
Doha: A fire broke out in the central market in the morning and black smoke enveloped the whole area.
A tweet by Ministry of Interior said that “a fire broke out in a number of shops in the central market and stakeholders initiated procedures on site.”
No casualties were reported yet and the cause of fire is not known. Some witnesses claimed that a supermarket caught fire first and it spread to other shops but the information cannot be verified yet as no official statement is available as yet.
According to witnesses many shops are gutted in the fire near the Omani Souq at the central vegetable market.
In the morning, in a different incident, a fire was reported from a villa in Ain Khalid. According to witnesses officials rushed to the spot within minutes and bought the situation under control.
During peak summer many such incidents are reported in Doha. Yesterday, fire broke out at four sites in the Industrial Area and Al Shafi Street in Al Rayyan. There were no casualties.
