Geneva: The United Nations announced that over two million Syrians returned to their homes since the fall of Assad regime on December 8 of last year.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi stated in a post on X, that more than two million Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons returned home since the end of 2024, calling it a sign of hope amid rising tensions in the region.

Despite these returns, approximately 13.5 million Syrians remain displaced or living as refugees. The new Syrian authorities, led by transitional president Ahmad Al Sharaa, are working to advance economic recovery efforts in preparation for a reconstruction phase, which the UN estimates will cost over $400 billion.
