Geneva: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) condemned the ongoing and utterly unacceptable violence against starving Palestinians attempting to access humanitarian aid in the besieged Gaza Strip. The agency described such acts as blatant violations of human dignity and a factor worsening the dire humanitarian crisis faced by over two million people in Gaza.
In a statement issued on Thursday, WFP stressed that far too many people lost their lives while trying to reach the limited food aid allowed into Gaza. The organization pointed to repeated and deadly attacks targeting civilians gathered to receive relief, calling attention to the extreme risks Palestinians face in seeking basic sustenance.
As the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza deepens, aid distribution points increasingly become "mass death traps," according to Palestinian and UN reports. These centers, once a lifeline for desperate families, are now reportedly direct targets of gunfire, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries. Human rights organizations and UN agencies warned that such violations may constitute war crimes and breach the fundamental principles of civilian protection under international humanitarian law.
