Doha: Marking this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), in collaboration with the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), has opened online registration for the ‘Ladies Walk the Park’ breast cancer awareness campaign.
The event is set to take place at Aspire Park on Thursday from 4-6pm and it aims to encourage participants to embrace a healthier lifestyle and become familiar with both the causes of breast cancer and effective prevention methods.
Female residents of Qatar of all ages are encouraged to participate in a 1-2 kilometre walk around Aspire Park and attend a breast cancer awareness seminar presented by the Qatar Cancer Society.
Registration is free and can be done through our website: www.lifeinaspire.qa
Last year, a number of local icons participated in the event, including Ahlam Al Mana, President of the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee (QWSC), Aisha Al Kuwari, Chairwoman of Qatar Centre for Voluntary Activities, Asma Al Hamadi, Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) Honorary Ambassador, and Fatima Al Kuwari, Director of Public and Community Relations at Ooredoo.
Commenting on the event, Lolwa Al Marri, head of Events at Aspire Zone Foundation, said: “We are proud to collaborate with the Qatar Cancer Society again this year to organise the ‘Ladies Walk the Park’. We look forward to welcoming female residents from Qatar who care about raising awareness of breast cancer and ways to prevent it.”
Ms Mariam Hamad Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Qatar Cancer Society, added:
“The Qatar Cancer Society is keen to participate in every major event in Qatar, in line with our CSR objectives, which aims to reach audiences of all ages and economic or cultural backgrounds, to spread awareness about cancer, its causes, prevention methods, and to debunk any myths or misconceptions about the disease.
She continued, “Early detection of the cancer disease can increase the success rates of its treatments. As such, it is important to spread awareness among people about the importance of getting frequent medical checkups, regular exercises and healthier eating choices.”
Finally, Al Nuaimi concluded her speech saying, “The ‘Ladies Walk the Park’ event, organised in partnership with Aspire, is an extensions of QCS’ ongoing awareness campaign, ‘For You’, taking place throughout the month of October.”
She also said that the event is organised for women particularly and the community more generally, as it focuses on breast cancer awareness, addressing its seriousness, prevention methods, and the important role of exercise in boosting the body’s immune system.”
As outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030, this event contributes to the Human Development pillar of Aspire Zone Foundation’s objectives by creating a physically and psychologically healthy population.
The International Breast Cancer Awareness month occurs every October, with major breast cancer charities from around the world organising events to shed light on the disease, spread awareness and raise money for research, as per the information available.
