Inflation rises 2.6% in Sept

DOHA: Inflation in Qatar jumped 2.6 percent in September this year compared to same month last year mainly pushed by rise in the prices of services in ‘Recreation and Culture’ and ‘Transport’ group. 
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached 108.8 in September this year against 106 in the same month in 2015, said the Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics yesterday.
The Index registered a month-on-month (MoM) rise of 0.1 percent in September, 2016 compared to CPI of August this year.
On year-on-year (YoY) basis, ‘Recreation and Culture’ group increased by 10.3 percent, ‘Transport’ by 5.1 percent while ‘Miscellaneous Goods and Services’ group rose by 4.3 percent. ‘Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel’ group increased by 2.9 percent, ‘Education’ by 1.6 percent, ‘Furniture and Household Equipment’ by 1.3 percent, and ‘Communication’ group rose 0.1 percent.
The Index saw decline in prices in some groups in September. ‘Restaurants and Hotels’ group fell by 2.7 percent, ‘Food and Beverages’ by 2 percent, ‘Health’ by 0.9 percent, and “Clothing and Footwear” by 0.2 percent. ‘Tobacco’ was the group, which witnessed no change during the period.
On MoM basis, ‘Education’ group jumped by 1.6 percent, ‘Recreation and Culture’ by 0.7 percent, ‘Restaurants and Hotels’ by 0.2 percent, ‘Health’ by 0.1 percent.
‘Clothing and Footwear’ fell by 0.9 percent, ‘Miscellaneous Goods and Services’ by 0.3 percent, ‘Furniture and Household Equipment’, and ‘Transport’ by 0.1 percent for each. ‘Food and Beverages’, ‘Tobacco’, ‘Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel’, and ‘Communication’ remained flat at the last month’s price level.
The CPI of September, 2016 excluding ‘Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel’ group stands at 107.0, showing an increase by 0.2 percent when compared to the index of August 2016, and by 2.7 percent when compared to the CPI of September, 2015.
