DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has closed a car showroom in the New Doha area for a month for importing and selling new cars that did not meet the required standards and specifications.
This comes in the framework of the ministry’s intensive inspection campaigns to regulate and control the market and the state commercial activities in order to crack down on price manipulation, and disclose violations, fake and counterfeit commodities that don’t conform to the standard specifications.
The erring showroom was booked and closed for a month in accordance with Article No (6) of Law No 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection and combating commercial fraud, which states that “It is prohibited for all suppliers to sell or display or provide or promote or advertise any counterfeit or corrupted good. A commodity is considered fake or corrupted, if it does not match the prescribed standards or is unusable or has expired.”
The administrative closure ad will be distributed at the expense of the car showroom or the violating shop in accordance with Article No (3) of Law No (8) on Consumer Protection, which stipulates that (The ad is published on the website of the Ministry and in two daily newspapers at the violating company’s expense.)
The ministry will not tolerate any violations of the Consumer Protection Law and its regulations, and will intensify its inspection campaigns to crack down on violations. The ministry said it will refer those who violate laws and ministerial decrees to competent authorities, who will in turn take action against perpetrators in order to protect consumer rights.
