Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality has carried out extensive clean-up campaigns at several beaches and islands as part of activities marking World Cleanup Day 2026, collecting approximately 1,603kg of waste and recyclable materials.
Organised by the Ministry’s General Cleanliness Department, represented by the Beaches and Islands Section, the campaigns covered Zekreet, Simaisma Family Beach, Abu Samra, Ras Abu Fontas and Al Jasasiya. The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness and promote a culture of preserving the cleanliness of beaches and the coastal environment.
A total of 469 participants from government entities, civil society organisations, private-sector volunteers, schools and members of the community took part in the campaigns. The collected waste included general waste, recyclable materials, wood, bulky waste and marine grass debris.
Mohammed Faraj Al Kubaisi, Assistant Director of the General Cleanliness Department, said World Cleanup Day activities provide an important opportunity to strengthen community partnerships and spread environmental awareness among different segments of society.
He noted that the strong participation of government and private entities, schools, volunteers and community members reflects the growing culture of shared responsibility for protecting beaches and the environment. Such efforts, he added, support the Ministry of Municipality’s drive to achieve a clean and sustainable environment.
