DOHA: In preparation for the start of the new academic year tomorrow, the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has started a traffic awareness campaign for students to teach them important traffic rules, especially the ones related to school buses.
The Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, opened on Thursday exhibitions for primary and preparatory students at Gulf Mall and Dar Al Salam Mall, a source at the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) told The Peninsula.
The exhibitions, which will continue for ten days, aimed at raising awareness among students on how to choose a healthy meals in schools, as well as providing them lectures about important traffic rules especially those related to school buses.
“In order to maintain student safety and on the occasion of school opening tomorrow, we are teaching students who mainly use school buses how to get on and off the bus, and the right places to wait for the bus,” said the source.
The campaign is also targeting parents and giving them important information on how to react to traffic violations particularly violations committed by drivers of their kids’ school buses.
The exhibition also focuses on parents due to their important role and responsibility towards the students and their safety on roads. “Parents are taken as role model by the students ... by teaching them many rules either on traffic or other aspects, we can control violations to a great extent. Parents can also help us catch traffic violators, for example in case parents see a school bus violating traffic rules they can report it through the number which is indicated on the bus”, said a source.
The General Directorate of Traffic will continue its lectures on traffic rules for school bus drivers and supervisors also and from tomorrow private school bus drivers and supervisors will join in.
