Kuwait: Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, participated in the Gulf Forum for Waste Management and Recycling, which took place on February 13 and 14 in Kuwait under the title “Green Hydrogen and Energy Transition”.
During its participation, the Ministry of Municipality highlighted its efforts in sorting waste from the source and the method of treatment and applying the best practices in waste management and disposal. The forum discussed the need to find sustainable clean energy solutions, adopt the expansion of the use of green hydrogen, create modern systems for waste management and recycling, preserve the environment and its waste of all kinds, and impose priorities for sustainable development and climate protection.
Director of Waste Management Department of the Ministry of Municipality, Eng. Hamad Jassim Al Bahar spoke in the forum’s panel discussion about the strategic goals of the Ministry by discussing the development of the waste management system, and the cooperation of the government and private sectors.
He reviewed the experience of the Ministry of Municipality in adopting the comprehensive plan for waste management and recycling, through the establishment of the Waste Management and Treatment Center in Mesaieed City, which is one of the largest centers in the region and meets the requirements of environmental safety in terms of waste treatment in a modern and safe manner.
Al Bahar highlighted the success of the Ministry in completely disposing of the stock of waste tyres in Qatar, which amounted to more than 175,000 tonnes, about 5.3 million tyres, in each of the Umm Al Afai landfill and Rawdat Rashid Landfill, as part of its efforts to waste recycling and treatment in tire landfills.
