With a line-up of 45 events and activities, the Cultural Village — Katara — maintains its position as a must-visit spot to celebrate Qatar National Day.
To kick off on National Day, the two-day long dazzling festivities combine culture, art and entertainment celebrating pride and loyalty to the country and embracing national identity.
“It is a great privilege to me to offer my sincere congratulations to Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the Qatari people, on the National Day of Qatar. It is a remarkable day which is dear to our hearts when we, with utmost pride, renew loyalty to our wise leadership, gratefulness to the Founding Father of the nation and show a true sense of belonging to our homeland,” said Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti at a press conference at Katara yesterday.
A major highlight of this year’s programme is the release of a CD titled "Creativity Stays", containing a selection of songs by elite singers and artistes who have left a great and lasting impact on Qatari music and got wide acclaim making waves beyond Qatari borders. The songs have been revived and performed by young Qatari singers.
“Our celebrations of the National Day this year will be witnessing lots of pleasant surprises. Katara will be honouring the national star singers, musicians and artistes who left us an outstanding musical legacy, such as composer Abdul Aziz Naser, artists Faraj Abdul Kareem and Mohammed Al Sae' and musician Hasan Ali. This honour will be extended through the "Creativity Stays" CD that we are releasing. The CD's 70s and 80s songs are being revived by young Qatari singers,” said Dr Al Sulaiti.
One of the unique new features of the programme is a spectacular dancing water fountain. The line-up of events also includes military and student parades, performances of Ardha national dance, workshops and fine art exhibitions, and cultural and artistic shows set to entertain thousands of people expected to turn up during in the course of the two-day celebration.
