DOHA: The General Authority for Specifications and Standardization will mark the World Standards Day tomorrow.
The celebration will be under the slogan “Standards build confidence”, in order to raise awareness among people of the importance of standards and their role in keeping health and safety of consumers, in addition to the impact of raising the quality of industrial and products sectors.
The Authority said in a statement that it has achieved many goals. Among its achievements in the national level was issuing 15866 standard specifications and technical lists in sectors of food, agriculture, building and electricity, among others.
It also mentioned that the Authority has issued national standard specifications which have international and regional references, to serve the national economy and fit with local market especially commercial and industrial sectors.
World Standards Day is celebrated on October 14 every year. It was first marked in 1970, in order to highlight the importance of international standards specifications issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission. It also recognises the workers’ efforts in the field of standards.
