Washington, USA: X has officially launched the Android version of its standalone messaging app, XChat, expanding the service beyond iPhone users and broadening access to its growing suite of messaging features.

According to a post on X, Android users can now download XChat, which separates direct messaging from the main X platform into a dedicated messaging app.

XChat offers end-to-end encrypted messaging, disappearing messages, voice and video calls, group chats, media sharing, and file transfers, positioning it as a competitor to messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal.

The Android launch follows the app's debut on iOS earlier this year and marks another step in X's broader strategy to expand beyond social networking into a more comprehensive communications platform.

Rather than treating messaging as a feature within the X platform, the company is increasingly positioning XChat as a standalone communications app that could eventually support a wider range of services across the X ecosystem.

In addition to its core messaging capabilities, XChat includes PIN-protected conversations, higher-quality media sharing, support for file transfers of up to 2 GB, message editing and deletion, and screenshot blocking.

The Android release is considered a significant milestone for XChat, as Android accounts for the majority of the global smartphone market. With the app now available on both major mobile operating systems, X has removed one of the biggest barriers to expanding its messaging platform's reach.
