DOHA: Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has dispatched fresh humanitarian aid worth QR750,000 to the Moyen-Chari, a city of Chad Republic, which houses thousands of refugees from the Central African Republic.
The aid includes medicines and foodstuffs. The project was financed by citizens and expatriates from Qatar. More than 20,000 people will benefit from the project.
RAF, in collaboration with its local partner in the country, has distributed aid materials to 3,500 beneficiary families at three refugee camps in the city.
The camps are Danamajisar, Minamasar and Satamasar.
RAF has provided the aid responding a humanitarian call made by the Ministry of Social and Family Affairs of Chad to meet the requirements of basic necessities of the people in refugee camps especially the weaker sections of the community like children, people with disabilities, widows and orphans.
They also needed medicines for infectious diseases and foodstuffs for survival.
Al Rashad charitable organization, the local partner of RAF, in collaboration with the local authority conducted a study to assess the needs of families. It was found that there was a shortage of medicines for chronic and infectious diseases like malaria and diarrhea.
Refugee camps needed clinics to improve the health conditions of the people.
Baskets of basic foodstuffs were distributed to refugees at the camps. The baskets include rice, flour, corn, sugar, edible oil, cleaning materials. The quantity was enough for a family for three months.
There are about 150,000 refugees from Central African Republic in Chad. They are sheltering in several refugee camps set up at the southern part of the country, posing great challenge to the national economy. They do not have any source of income and needed foods, medicines and shelters.
RAF has been providing aid to the refugees far the last three years since the beginning of the crisis.
RAF has recently conducted a survey to assess the critical cases requiring urgent medical treatments.
There is a plan to send a medical team comprising volunteer doctors for medical checkups, for conducting small surgeries and prescribing medicines to the beneficiaries.
